Follow-up meeting of the European Project PLAST4H2

The European project PLAST4H2, “Plastic circularity through an efficient detection, collection, and valorization into Hydrogen and value-added products”, held its first follow-up meeting on May 30th, 2024, at the Technological University of Shannon (Ireland).

The meeting was attended by the seven partners involved in the project. In addition to reviewing the progress of the project, the consortium presented the initial advancements achieved during the first months of implementation. These included the launch of the first underwater plastic collection campaigns in the Canary Islands, the development of an app for monitoring marine plastics, a model for marine plastic circulation, and the preliminary designs for a ship and a pyrolysis plant aimed at converting plastic waste into hydrogen.

Additionally, a dedicated session also explored potential synergies with Irish representatives from the European project “Bluepoint,” which is also funded by the same Interreg Atlantic Area Programme. This project focuses on complementary actions related to the recycling and valorization of residual plastics.

Finally, the partners had the opportunity to visit the facilities of the Polymer, Recycling, Industrial, Sustainability and Manufacturing (PRISM) Research Institute at the Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands (TUS), followed by a tour of Clonmacnoise, an early Christian monastic site and abbey located on the banks of the River Shannon.
