Sara Capucho and Catarina Querido Defend MSc Theses Related to PLAST4H2 Research

In December, Sara Capucho and Catarina Querido successfully defended their MSc theses at Instituto Superior Técnico, presenting research directly linked to the European project PLAST4H2, focused on marine plastic monitoring and valorisation.

Sara’s thesis, “Lagrangian simulation of plastic transport and accumulation zones in the Bay of Biscay”, investigated plastic pathways and accumulation patterns in the Bay of Biscay.

Catarina’s thesis, “Lagrangian modelling of marine plastic transport and accumulation along the coast of Tenerife”, explored plastic dynamics along the Canary Islands coast.

Both theses applied advanced Lagrangian modeling approaches, allowing for the simulation of particle transport in complex oceanic and coastal systems. Their findings not only deepen the scientific understanding of marine plastic pathways but also reinforce the practical objectives of PLAST4H2 by linking modeling results to operational strategies for converting collected plastics into hydrogen, energy, and value-added products.
