New scientific publication from UPV/EHU advances the thermodynamic analysis of plastic waste valorization for hydrogen production

Researchers from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), partners of the PLAST4H2 project, have published a new scientific article in the prestigious journal Energy Conversion and Management. The paper, entitled “Plastic waste valorization through pyrolysis and in line sorption enhanced steam reforming with CO₂ utilization: Thermodynamic analysis”, presents a comprehensive thermodynamic assessment of an innovative route for converting plastic waste into hydrogen while simultaneously utilizing carbon dioxide.

The study investigates the integration of plastic waste pyrolysis with in-line sorption enhanced steam reforming (SESR). Through thermodynamic modelling, the researchers evaluate the influence of key operating parameters on process performance, hydrogen yield and gas composition, identifying conditions that maximise hydrogen production while improving carbon utilization.

The publication represents another important scientific contribution within the framework of PLAST4H2, reinforcing the project’s objective of developing innovative solutions for transforming plastic waste into valuable resources and supporting the transition towards a circular and climate-neutral economy.
