UPV/EHU researchers represent PLAST4H2 technologies at three international conferences

Research from PLAST4H2 project partner University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) was showcased at three international conferences over the summer, highlighting the project’s research on the valorisation of plastic waste and its presence within the international scientific community.

The first event was the 25th International Symposium on Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis (PYRO2026), held in Pisa, Italy, from 7 to 11 June 2026. Research by P. Comendador, S. Arias, K. Santin, F. Atashi, G. Lopez, M. Amutio and M. Artetxe was presented in an oral contribution entitled “Hydrogen and syngas production from plastic waste pyrolysis and in-line sorption enhanced steam reforming”. The work explored the potential of combining pyrolysis with downstream processing to recover useful products from plastic waste, including hydrogen and syngas.

From 12 to 16 July, young researcher Miren Ugarriza presented a poster at the 10th EuChemS Chemistry Congress (ECC10) in Antwerp, Belgium. Her contribution, “Thermodynamic assessment of the joint valorization of CO₂ and waste plastics by pyrolysis and in-line combined reforming for syngas production”, investigated the theoretical performance of the process, providing insights into how different operating conditions can affect the conversion of waste streams into useful products.

Most recently, Stephanie Arias-Lugo presented her research at the International Symposium on Feedstock Recycling of Polymeric Materials (ISFR 2026), held in Karlsruhe, Germany, from 6 to 9 September. Her poster, “Evaluation of the Catalyst-to-Adsorbent Ratio Influence on Waste Plastic Pyrolysis and In-Line Sorption Enhanced Steam Reforming”, examined how the composition of the reaction system can influence process performance and the resulting products.

Together, these three conference contributions showcase the breadth of research being carried out by UPV/EHU within PLAST4H2, while providing opportunities to exchange knowledge with the international scientific community and share the project’s work on innovative approaches to plastic waste valorisation.
