PLAST4H2 Participates in Blue Expedition; Alfredo Ortiz and Pedro Ruiz Named Blue Ambassadors

Prof. Alfredo Ortiz (UC) and Pedro Ruiz (MARE) participated on October 16 in the Blue Expedition event held in Santander, a European awareness initiative that is part of the Blue Point, focused on tackling marine plastic pollution and promoting sustainable blue economy solutions.

During the event, both were officially named Blue Ambassadors in recognition of their strong commitment to marine protection and their active contribution to advancing circular solutions for plastic waste management.

They took part as partners of the European project PLAST4H2, coordinated by the Universidad de Cantabria, which aims to promote plastic circularity through efficient detection, collection and valorisation of non-recyclable plastics into hydrogen and other value-added products. By sharing objectives with Blue Point — particularly in recovering marine plastics and promoting circular blue economy models — PLAST4H2 contributes to reducing marine litter while generating sustainable energy and new economic opportunities across the Atlantic region.

Their participation in the Blue Expedition strengthened cooperation between European projects and regional stakeholders, fostering knowledge exchange and enhancing the dissemination of shared objectives. This collaboration reinforces synergies among initiatives committed to transforming marine plastic waste into environmental, social and economic opportunities.
